Ryan Cartwright is an Investment Manager within Frontier Development Capital (part of Mercia Asset Management), focused on delivering debt finance to ambitious SMEs across the West Midlands through the Midlands Engine Investment Fund II.
He works closely with business owners and management teams to structure funding solutions that support growth, job creation, investment and expansion plans.
Ryan specialises in SME lending and brings extensive experience in commercial banking, alternative finance and public sector-backed funding programmes. His role encompasses deal origination, credit assessment, transaction execution and ongoing portfolio relationship management across a broad range of sectors
Previous experience
Ryan has spent more than 17 years supporting SME businesses through a variety of lending, relationship management and economic development roles. He began his career with NatWest, where he worked with established SMEs and developed extensive experience in commercial lending and relationship management. He later gained experience within business support and growth advisory services through roles with the Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce and the British Business Bank, where he served as UK Network Manager for the West Midlands, helping businesses access finance and wider growth support.
Prior to joining Frontier Development Capital, Ryan was an Investment Manager with The FSE Group, delivering debt finance through the Midlands Engine Investment Fund and supporting SMEs seeking funding for growth and expansion. This experience further strengthened his expertise in cashflow lending, credit assessment and supporting businesses that may not be able to access traditional funding sources.
Ryan holds a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Management Science from Keele University and combines strong financial analysis skills with a practical understanding of the challenges facing growing businesses.
